R = winter resident, migrating birds that have been staying here every winter, for the past five years. V = visitors, birds that may or may not appear at any time during the winter. You need some luck to see them. M = migrants, birds only passing through, in the late fall or early spring. |
Ease of finding. This is based on observation in the birds preferred habitat, and doesn't apply elsewhere.
1 = Abundant, seen on every or almost all outings. 2 = Easy to find, seen on most outings. 3 = Not so easy, but seen on several outings each winter. 4 = Difficult, A rare or very retiring bird, you need to know its habitat and you need patience and perseverance, or just plain luck. 5 = You need a lot of luck for this one, seen only once or twice, but sometimes not seen, each winter. |
